2 Things To Try If Your Kitchen Sink Isn't Draining

Posted on: 19 March 2018

If you are having problems with your kitchen sink not draining the way that it should, it can make it really difficult for you to do anything in your kitchen. If you have to hand wash dishes, you can end up with dirty water sitting in your sink for a while. Luckily, there are some things that you can do that can help you with getting your kitchen sink draining the way that you should.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

One of the things that you can do is to use baking soda and vinegar to clean up the pipes. It's a pretty easy thing to do and is a pretty easy way to start the process because you should have no problems moving up to the next level of intervention. The first thing you are going to want to do is boil some hot water in a kettle. When you've got some nice hot water, pour that down your sink and then fill the kettle back up. Then you are going to want to put some baking soda into the drain. It can be hard to put a powder down your drain, but you can put a funnel in your drain and put the powder down the pipe that way. Once you have put the baking soda down the pipe, then you can pour some vinegar in. It doesn't matter what kind of vinegar you use, but you might want to try using apple cider vinegar because it's not as strong smelling as white vinegar is. Then put the plug in the drain. That will keep all the bubbles and gas in the pipes and not escaping out. Let it sit for a few minutes and then pour more boiling water in the pipe. If that works, great. if not, you need to try something else out.

Drain Cleaners

If the baking soda and vinegar doesn't work, then you may want to try a commercial drain cleaner. Those can help clean your drain pipes out. The problem with that is those chemicals can be very harsh and may not always work. That means if you need to try something else, you may have those harsh chemicals sitting in your pipes.

If all the things you try don't get your kitchen sink draining again, you may want to call a plumber and ask them to do it for you. They will have access to tools that you might not be able to get.
