Your bedroom should be an oasis that you can escape to for sleep and relaxation. Upgrading the switches and outlets in the room can help you better achieve those goals.
1. Dimmer Switches
Sometimes you need bright light in your bedroom, such as when cleaning or getting ready in the morning, and other times dimmer lighting is needed, such as in the evening when getting into bed or if you want to set a certain mood. A dimmer switch can provide for both of your lighting needs without having to install a bunch of different types of fixtures.
A timer can be especially useful in the bedroom, especially if you tend to fall asleep while reading. Timer outlets can be set so that lights and other devices, such as the television, turn off at a specified time. This means you won't need to get up in the middle of the night because you left your bedside lamp on. Timers are especially useful in children's rooms, especially for children that have trouble falling asleep with the light off. This way you don't need to leave the light on all night.
3. Fan Controls
Are you tired of standing in the middle of the bed to reach the ceiling fan pull cord? You can have an updated light switch installed that controls both the light on the fan and the variable speed controls. This way you can easily adjust the fan without having to mess with any pull cords.
4. Outlet Options
The modern home uses a lot of different types of plugs beyond the standard two- and three-prong varieties. USBs, micro USBs, and USB-C are the most common types used for computers, tablets, and smartphones. More and more devices, including lamps and clocks, are also switching over to these options. Instead of using adapters in standard outlets, consider installing outlet hubs. These outlets feature one or two standard outlets along with options to plug USB and other types of plugs directly into the outlet — no adapter needed.
5. Smart Outlet
Smart outlets are Wi-Fi enabled, which means you can control them from your smartphone. The benefits of installing a smart outlet in the bedroom are that you can then control items like radios, lamps, and other appliances in the room without having to get out of bed.
